Tidal now offers a free tier with limited interruptions and other trade-offs that may persuade you to upgrade to one of the two paid tiers with HiFi audio support. Meanwhile I see professional audio people who actually make the music you listen to wearing 200-500$ headphones. It's a really toxic hobby, is all I'm saying. I'm not going to claim it's not snake oil because I did not try a device that can decode MQA but to me it just seems that audiophiles are mad because their 1000$+ equipment that can't (!) decode MQA isn't so premium anymore :p The question is just how much "lossier" it is? If they take out 5-10% of the sound, reduce the file size by a lot (which means more music availability and no subscription price increase) and make it sound better, then what's the issue? I've listened to songs from my computer (flac), MQA (not decoded) and hi-fi on Tidal and the MQA on Tidal were the ones I actually preferred.
